Creating a beautiful smile: the veneers option
Wed, Mar 18, 2009
Discoloured teeth, small gaps between them or chipped teeth after an accident will prevent us from having the perfect smile we always wanted. The veneers have been used for quite some time to “hide” such imperfections and they have been a good option in this matter.
In some very light orthodontic cases these veneers might solve the issues and you wouldn’t need braces. But this is for your specialist to decide, since most of the time orthodontics doesn’t work only on “beauty”, but there are occlusion issues that need addressing and these are already more serious matters.
Still, some patients, after ending their ortho treatment, might need veneers due to the problems mentioned before. Their teeth are straight now and still the small enamel imperfections migth be solved vith dental veneers.
In my case there is the need for at least one on a discoloured tooth. It’s not on a frontal position, but, if I have a wide smile (and it’s always like this) you can see that molar and it does look bad. I assume my orthodontics treatment will have this at the end too, so that I can have a nice smile afterall.
From what I read online and discussed with my dentist, the veneers are pretty easy to place and they should last for quite some time. The price also varies, especially when we talk people from different countries. In Romania the price is a tad smaller than in other countries, but from what I read in the USA you can go up to 1000 USD/tooth (please help me with the prices, if you guys know more about this, so that we can make the corrections. As mentioned, I have just read this, don’t know how it looks like in your country
).
The good thing is that once placed on the tooth, with proper care, these veneers will last you a lot and will make the teeth look natural and beautiful. I have seen some examples in my dentist’s office and it was hard for me to believe those people had something else than their natural teeth.
Cosmetic dentistry is having more and more followers each day since our dental needs have increased. We don’t just want our cavities filled or teeth cleaned, we want straight teeth and even more .. we want our teeth to be white, perfectly aligned and with no imperfections.
And now, of course, we get to discuss about this. Have you had veneers? What type? Are you pleased with this treatment option?

The particular type of veneers you linked to require less prep work than traditional porcelain veneers. They are thinner and thus require less tooth structure removal. They are less costly than traditional veneers and tend to run at most $1,000 per tooth.

I’m 32 and have been told by multiple dentists that I have grat teeth and when I go in for a cleaning they always tell me that things still look great…
Problem these days is if you compare my teeth with anyone that has had no work or whiting done I will come out on top… with all the cosmetic dentistry and whiting being done I go from the best looking teeth to someone who needs some whiting…
Bottom line… it looks like I may need some cosmetic work just to keep up with everyone elses smiles! What happend to naturally perfect???

I have a tooth that chipped, and continues to chip bit by bit. For some reason, no dentist I have gone to wants to do anything about it. Perhaps because it’s an I tooth (or canine? I don’t know the name). Cosmetically it looks funky, but functionally it works, so they want to leave it. I have thought about vaneers, but I girl I know has them on all of her teeth, and they kind of make her speak funny. Again I wonder if the cosmetic improvement is worth speaking differently. I guess it’s always give and take (though normally the take is the doctor, and the give is my wallet).

I haven’t got veneers myself, but I have admired them on others. The cost is a prohibitive factor for many people, but I guess it depends on how important your smile is to you. If you have straight, healthy teeth there is the option of teeth whitening, but it all depends on what condition your teeth are in. Veneers can look very impressive.

My best friend had this done. The dentist did an excellent match to her other teeth so you can not tell she had it done. It was rather expensive and her dental insurance would not cover any of the costs.
She was very sensitive about her smile so it was worth it to her. I don’t think that I would spend that much just to have whiter teeth but I can understand why she wanted to do this.

Veneers can be expensive but I definitely think they are worth it.

The topic creating a beautiful Smile: the veneers option is an interesting topic for the young peoples. Keeping our teeth healthy is good and bringing up the topic of dental is awesome idea. I have not done any veneers but from my side if I am having a light orthodontic I would go for lumineers veneer instead of traditional veneer. Lumineers veneer is much better than traditional veneer as it does not give much pain while preparation is going on but in traditional veneer anesthetic shots are given to numb area and it gives more pain while the preparations is going and after too. For the prices, I think you should go for a dental plan that gives 20 to 30% once you become member and 3 months additional free. Hope u carry on with the plan.

I agree to the topic creating a beautiful smile: the veneers option and its important topic for the young peoples. In order to have a beautiful smile we need to make our teeth grown in a proper way not a crooked one and moreover we should keep our teeth healthy. For me I haven’t had veneers yet it doesn’t mean that I am having a perfect teeth. If I have to choose veneers than I would definitely go for Composite Veneers. Composite veneers are cheaper than Porcelain Veneers and it doesn’t take time while going for the treatment. Moreover, Composite veneers are easier to repair than porcelain veneers. Individual chips in composite veneers can be fixed, while chips in porcelain ones require a complete extraction of the veneer. Yeah I will be happy with the treatment of the composite veneers as it doesn’t include removing existing teeth, its done only by scratching up the surface of our existing teeth

Ya I had a dental Veneers for a crocked teeth. I am Happy with the treatment and now I can smile freely. For Dental veneers Dentist may take x-rays and possibly make impressions of your mouth and teeth. To prepare a tooth for a veneer, dentist will remove about half millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, Before trimming off the enamel, you and your dentist will decide the need for a local anesthetic to numb the area. Next, the dentist will make a model or impression of your tooth. This model will send out to a dental laboratory, which in turn constructs your veneer. It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for your dentist to receive the veneers back from the laboratory. Before permanently cementing the veneers on your tooth, your dentist will temporarily place it on your tooth for examining the fit and color. The dentist will repeatedly removed and trimmed the veneer as needed to achieve the proper fit; the veneer color can be adjusting with the shade of cement be used. Next, for preparing your tooth to receive the veneers, your tooth will be cleaned, polished and etched in order to allow for a strong bonding process. Once the veneers are finish sculpted, your dentist will apply them to your teeth. To apply the veneers your dentist will buff your enamel up with a sandpaper-like material. Then an adhesive will be applied and put the veneer in place They not only create a whiter smile they can also take care of unpleasant gaps between teeth. Cosmetic dentistry provides instant results and last for decades. Dental veneers are one of the treatments that can provide relief for those suffering from smile defects.

I’m get a double jaw surgery (forgot the medical name) to fix my under bite and then I’ll be getting braces for 3-6 months after. Do you think it would be good to get Invisalign for an additional few months to make sure my teeth/bite remains straight?

Hi there, I just wanted to comment on your article, I’ve had lots of problems with my teeth. I must say, most of my molars had root canal treatment. But when it comes to cosmetic dentistry, lucky for me, I found some natural methods of whitening the teeth. I learned those methods while spending time in India, learning some ancient Yoga systems of practice and hygiene. In the Shat Karma Kriya system there is one Kriya method for whitening the teeth. Look for some good books on the subject or checkout some yoga websites. Good luck.

I am a dentist in Surrey Canada and I am a strong believer to design a diagnostic wax-up prior to start the veneer treatments. During the wax-up, the appropriate smile design protocol should be followed and factors listed below should be taken in to the consideration:
=> proper function;
=> proper incisal edge harmony with the smile line;
=> proper gingival contour shape and position;
=> proper lip line;
=> proper midline;
=> proper axial inclination;
=> proper incisal embrasures;
=> proper central dominance and golden proportion;
=> proper emergence profile;
=> optimal periodontal health;
=> properly developed buccal corridor ;
=> proper cervical embrasures ;
