I am 53 and using upper braces and a lower split to remedy TMJ problems. I've been putting it off for a decade and can't wait any longer.

I got ceramic braces (Clarity 3M Unitech), which I understood to be among the best-camouflaged, other than the lingual braces, which aren't appropriate for my condition.

The problem is that they are bulky and they have upwardly-directed tooth-like points. When my upper lip comes to rest on them, I look like a bulldog whose jowls have gotten caught up on his canines. So I'm always conscious of trying not to do that. My lips are perpetually stretching to get over the points and seek out a natural place to settle down, and the bulky braces cause my lips to bulge out when they do. My daughter has taken to calling me "the Chimp".

Also, eating out with others is a challenge. Laughing at a joke at the dinner table is definitely out.

Is a switch to these Damon braces likely to be much better for somebody like me?

My elder sister also used to wear braces although they look a bit awkward still they are very helpful for teeth and one should use brace when necessary.

Can self ligating braces be used when there is an impacted eye tooth that needs to be exposed, pulled down and aligned?

Thank you

My younger brother have also a problem of irregular teeth. So that I think that I should suggest him for damon braces, I know it slightly much more expensive than regular braces but it's better than regular braces.

Obviously from what you saying, you have an impacted canine. What you ortho meant was that they will bond/glue something on your (vampire) tooth as you called it and that thing has a chain coming out.
From that chain then the ortho can pull down your tooth into the arch to align it with the rest of your teeth.

I tried to explain it with the simplest words I could find, not to worry however this is an approach used very often with canine teeth like your own, it does not hurt more than normal ortho treatment, it could however be a little lengthier, but that depends on how your teeth are exactly.

I will be removing my braces in a few weeks, after 2 years. I could not use Invisalign because three of my teeth needed 90 degree rotation.
One tip for those with metal braces, like me:
Use a water jet cleaner. They are powerful, are easy to install on your faucet and will remove "ALL" food residues that any floss would be able to reach, avoiding cavities, bad breath and infection of cuts in the mucosa from the braces.
I am using Wet Smile, which you can find at Amazon.com @ http://www.amazon.com/Wet-Smile-Faucet-Mounting-Cleaner/dp/B0035C5KO6 (this is not an affiliate link and I am not make a commission on it, but the blogger should make something, for her nice work in bring all this information together).
Anyways... I recommend it!
Good luck!

I got damon 3 braces on 9 days ago and my teeth have already moved. My friends do not have them (I live in a city that offers it and they live in smaller towns) and we have compared the differences, it seems like my braces are much more convenient and comfortable...and less noticeable too. Truth be told though, I could care less what they looked like, I just want my teeth straight in a shorter amount of time, and it seems like I will.
