Ceramic braces

The metal braces have been used for many years to give us those amazing smiles. And still more and more patients are looking to wearing some more discreet braces, far from those bulky ones with ligatures. Many don’t want or cannot afford Invisalign or Incognito (or Ibraces) so they need something that doesn’t look that “metal” and still works.

So .. the orthodontists came up with something: cereamic braces.
These are not made from metal, so they don’t show like those. They are created from a ceramic material with a color close to our natural teeth colour. The only thing easier to spot is the archwire, but it’s a small line and not an entire bracing system to be seen. Thus the more discreet look.
As you can see in the image, the teeth look more “natural” and the braces do work nicely to straighten the teeth. And if you want another reason to think about this: even Tom Cruise wore ceramics to fix his slightly imperfect teeth
The advantage over the metal braces: they don’t show that much and are thus more discreet
The disadvantages:
- they cost a bit more than the metal braces
- the ligatures can get stained and this would make the braces more visible
- the brackets a bit more “bulky” than Damon for instance. But still with their “camouflage” colour way harder to spot.
Ceramic braces are let’s say a “compromise” made for beauty. Even if the braces are close to the metallic ones as function, they don’t show that much and are perfect for people who want to have a nice smile while still being able to straighten their teeth. Other systems (Invisalign or Incognito) are more discreet, but they cost way more and these ceramic braces can still do a great job with the looks too.

I have had both braces, ceramic and metal, and i found it more difficult to clean the ceramic one. They were indd longer lasting then the metal.

i’ve just had ceramic braces on the top teeth, getting the bottom ones this weekend but i have no elastic ligatures. Will the orthodontist be putting these on or in some cases are they not needed?

There are self-ligating ceramic brackets available now (so no more stained ligatures)- Mairead, perhaps your orthodontist is using such a system. And there are also both teflon-coated and even clear archwires, although the latter are only available for the earlier stages of treatment. Most orthodontists would tell you that there is nothing they can achieve with metal brackets that they cannot achieve with ceramics, so they do not represent a compromise really.
The main disadvantage to them is that, being far harder than tooth enamel, ceramic brackets can chip the upper front teeth if used on the lower front teeth where there is a deep bite present. For this reason some orthodontists will not place them on th elower arch. They are also more brittle than metal, so some surgeons will not perform orthognathic surgery with ceramic brackets in place.

Ceramis braces are just like traditional braces, there is just a little difference. Traditional braces are silver and metal but ceramis braces are clear and well, ceramic. Ceramis braces blend into your teeth and are not very nocticable. They are also designed to cause less pain. Most of the patient cannot afford some of the braces so the orthodontist came up with the cereamic braces. It is designed specially as compare with other braces; it does not contain metal it has created from ceramic material color close to teeth. Even though they are costly but still these braces can do a great job in looks too.Its more lasting than other metal.

I just can agree to this. Ceramic braces have far more advantages than metal braces. And the costs are significant lower.

As compare to metallic braces, less visible ceramic veneers are much easier to manage and doesn’t look too awkward.
